Quality. Innovation. Consistency. Inspiration. These are the four immediate themes to sum up Noon Gun Brewery’s founding story and ongoing vision. Like you, we love beer, and we knew we could produce quality beer that is not only great tasting – but consistent. And, we knew our combined skills did not stop with beer; the teams’ innovative spirit runs parallel with the rapidly changing beverage environment worldwide, thus sustaining our relevance whilst we evolve with trends.
Noon Gun Brewery’s story began in 2015 when we converted a behemoth of a storage facility into a beer-brewing powerhouse. As 2017 progressed, our vision materialised in front of our eyes, and the various gold and amber liquid legacies have been making their way into several taprooms, restaurants, outlets and bars around the Western Cape – and now, across South Africa.
In 2018 we began winning local awards for our beer range, and in 2019 we became internationally recognised with two of our beers winning top awards at the European Beer Challenge in London. We have branched out to include healthier and lower calorie driven beverages, as well as our internationally award-winning GINNIC G&T mixer range.
Family powered, and independently guided, we have chosen proficient team members who feel honoured to provide the beer-loving community with quality drinks that present you with unique flavour profiles and something to share with family, friends, colleagues and fellow beer lovers.
Located in Capricorn Park in Muizenberg, our beer is made alongside the coast, and we are truly delighted to say everything we produce is proudly South African, environmentally friendly and future-vision driven.

THE NOON GUNS THAT SPARKED OUR NAME
Our beers are reliable, consistent and the brewery is based in the legendary Muizenberg area. We’re also proudly South African – so of course choosing a name had to reflect all of this.
What else in Cape Town is 100% reliable? The Noon Guns on Signal Hill. One of only two working Noon Guns in the world.
The Noon Guns on Signal Hill are symbols of strength, reliability, and endurance. An inspiring legacy to behold and a truly outstanding way to hear that it is finally lunchtime (a.k.a Beer Time).
Since 1806, these two trusty keepers of time (18-pounder smooth bore muzzle loaders), have survived various foreign occupations, stood strong through wars, and have been hauled from the Castle of Good Hope to Signal Hill.
However, the Noon Guns refuse to be left in the past with other outdated antiques, currently being fired electronically from the South African Astronomical Observatory. As accurate as the atomic clock that keeps them updated, these Noon Guns fire reliably at exactly 12pm every day. Which is also a respectable time to open your first Noon Gun beer and salute these two legends that overlook Cape Town. Every time you hear the Noon Guns’ BOOM! you’re allowed to think about a crisp, delicious Lager, Weiss, Light Lager and Session IPA. And all of these are available – right here – at the Noon Gun Brewery.
MEET NOON GUN’S BREWER
Heino Matthee’s professional journey began when he commenced studies in Chemical Engineering at the University of Pretoria. However, his father is Masterbrewer Arno Matthee, and it seems beer runs in the Matthees’ veins as Heino moved to Cape Town in 2018 where he joined his dad as assistant brewer at Noon Gun Brewery.
A few years and many, many kegs and beer batches later, Arno has passed on the reins and Heino is now the Brewer making sure our Noon Gun golden liquids are brewed with precision. And they truly are brewed to excellence!
When he’s not brewing, kegging, bottling or canning, Heino is reading, tries to squeeze in time for an online game or playing guitar. But most of the time he’s in the Brauhaus and between the tanks checking on the brews as they ferment to delicious golden perfection!
